David Sweanor spearheaded the development of world-leading tobacco control initiatives in Canada since the 1980s, first as counsel to the Non-Smokers Rights Association and then as an independent consultant. He played a key role in Canadian efforts on, among other things, tobacco taxation, advertising restrictions, package warnings, environmental tobacco smoke, smoking cessation, litigation and product regulation
David is a globally recognized expert on tobacco and public health issues. He has been active since the 1980s on these issues, working with bodies such as the World Health Organization, World Bank, Pan American Health Organization, International Union Against Cancer and numerous governments, foundations, law firms, and non-governmental organizations.
