Open Letter to Senate of Canada

Posted by The Vapemate Team on 3/7/2017 to Industry
Today we sent off a few letters to our Canadian Senators, hoping to get some answers and clarifications on Senate Bill S-5, An Act to amend the Tobacco Act and the Non-smokers’ Health Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, which was introduced for first reading on November 22nd, 2016.

We wanted to share the contents of one in hopes that it might provide you with some ideas or insight to your own actions and communication with our legislator. This bill IS going to pass through the Senate, House of Commons and eventually get Royal Assent. It's up to us and the Legislators to ensure that it is the best that it can possibly be by the time the regulations roll out.

Here is out initial letter...

Senate Bill S-5, a prelude to prohibition
Call to ACTION for Canadian Vapers and Smokers

In Canada, Senate Bill S-5, An Act to amend the Tobacco Act and the Non-smokers’ Health Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts was introduced for first reading on November 22nd, 2016.

This Bill has many points of significant concern and potentially catastrophic ramifications for not only the industry but to you and your rights to vaping products and harm reduction as a Canadian citizen. When the bill was first released, there were a few items of potential concern but after a Legal Assessment of the bill it became quite clear that the legislators do not understand the purpose of vaping products and they are giving themselves the ability to regulate vaping right out of existence.

The short of the long is… If this bill were to pass today, regulations placed in the hands of the wrong people could result in a complete shutdown of the independent industry and the only remaining player would be Big Tobacco. Thousands of jobs will be lost and 40,000 Canadians will continue to die from smoking related illnesses, every year.

We must ALLTAKE ACTION and take it NOW!

We need to educate the legislators about vaping products and explain the ramifications of what this bill is proposing. We don't care HOW or WHAT you do, just please help do "something" or the future of vaping in Canada is looking very bleak. This article contains some ideas and methods that you can use to help make that happen.

He’s spent the last 30-years on the front lines in the battle against smoking and he thinks e-cigarettes could be one of the biggest breakthroughs ever in public health. So, reached out to ask why so many of his anti-smoking colleagues seem to disagree.

Ontario Delays Vaping Regulations

Posted by The VapeMate Team on 1/3/2016 to Industry

The hammer fell hard on vapers in 2015 as provincial governments across Canada began passing new draconian legislation intended to strictly regulate the use and sale of vapour products.

But, while glimmers of hope emerged in the final weeks of the year, with the Ontario government announcing it would delay key aspects of its new regulatory regime and British Prime Minister David Cameron acknowledging the health benefits of vaping…it’s hard to overstate the challenges facing vapers as the calendar turns to 2016.

In today’s episode learn the real-deal on the Ontario provincial government’s delay and what it could mean for vapers across the country – only on RegWatch by

An Open Letter regarding the pending regulations for Bill 45, Schedule 3 (Electronic Cigarettes Act 2015) direct to sponsor, Hon. Dipika Damerla, Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care ([email protected]) as well as:
We will provide updates here as and if we receive any response(s).
  • Jan 13th, 2016 - Response received from Minister Bill Walker.  We already knew his position as being positive toward Electronic Cigarettes and against Bill 45, Sch 3 (ECA).  The response was quite positive and started with: "Thank you for writing and pointing out the pitfalls of Bill 45. I share your concerns, and did voice them directly with Minister Damerla in meetings and in the Legislature during debate on her bill."  He also requested a copy of any response we may receive from the Associate Health Minister, which we will provide (if one ever comes). We thank him for his support!

Dear Honourable Ministers, and Members of Parliament,
I find myself writing to you today with regard to Bill 45, Schedule 3 (Electronic Cigarette Act).  I have gone through the regulations and from what I can see with the regulations, I along with many others, we have reason for concern.

Ontario Bill 45, Sch 3 Pending Regulations

URGENT - Call to Action

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have quit smoking in the last few years with the aid of Electronic vaporizers. The government of Ontario has passed Bill 45 (Royal Assent on May 28, 2015) that effectively classifies these devices as a tobacco product. Vaping is NOT smoking. There is no smoke nor tobacco in a vape and the science is quickly catching up with the technology.

On January 1st regulations go into effect in Ontario that will harm the success of those wishing to make the switch from smoking to vaping. Retailers will no longer be allowed to have their customers test the products in store, which is essential to the success of each person quitting smoking. Vape retailers agree that the vaping industry needs regulations. They however believe that the regulations need to be based on fact and research and not hidden agendas. The Government of Ontario says that they want a smoke free Ontario but they have granted exemptions for big tobacco.

There will be a Rally held at Queen's Park on December 5th, 2015. PLEASE! We NEED your help!

We're Getting Screwed

You read it right. Vapers in Ontario are definitely getting screwed by our Liberal Government.

Let's review Bill 45, Schedule 3 (Electronic Cigarette Act 2015) [click here]
And the "New and Improved" Pending Regulations [click here]

We have been repeatedly lied to and I think we need to take a very real, hard second look a video that was done back in December 2014 (shortly after Bill 45 was first introduced). It depicts how the framework of Bill 45 reads (in the absence of regulations).

The Ontario Liberal Government needs to be called out on the floor, publicly in parliament.
