As reavealed in their Meeting Minutes at approximately 12:33 p.m, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health (HESA) agreed to begin a "study" spanning no fewer than five (5) meetings beginning on October 21st, 2014. The study focus on the following areas:
- the potential risk, benefits and challenges associated with these products domestically, including the renormalization of smoking, and use as smoking cessation aids,
- the pros and cons of ways in which different jurisdictions both domestically and internationally have chosen to regulate these products, and
- options for realizing any benefits and addressing any significant health and safety risks
The Committee will hear witnesses from the Department of Health concerning e-cigarettes during the first hour, and then begin with other witnesses during the second hour.
